Principal Investigator: Constantine Lyketsos, MD, MHS
The goal of this study is to determine the prevalence of dementia and psychiatric illness in Assisted Living facilities in Maryland and to obtain information about their treatment and course. Two hundred newly admitted assisted living residents will be recruited in the first 18 months of the study and evaluated semi-annually for a period of 3 years. The facilities have been randomly selected and are spread widely across the state. The assessments include a neuropsychiatric exam, neuropsychological testing, and various scales that measure general medical illness, functional status, behavioral disturbance, and quality of life.
